About The Event
On the 14th of September 2024, a prestigious and enriching educational event titled the “IIT GHY Campus Immersion Program” was organised by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Office of Outreach Educational Program, IIT Guwahati for DIEP (Desalite Integrated Entrance Prep) students from grades 11 and 12 of St. Francis De Sales School, Guwahati (SFS GUWAHATI). The event took place at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, with the primary aim of providing students with valuable insights and boosting their preparation for competitive entrance examinations like IIT-JEE and NEET.
The journey to IIT Guwahati began early on 14th September 2024 at 7:30 am, with 86 eager students accompanied by four escort teachers. Upon their arrival at the institute around 8:45 am, the group was welcomed with great hospitality and enthusiasm, setting the stage for a day filled with learning and exploration.
DAY 1
The first session commenced at 9:10 am, highlighting the significance of entrance examinations such as IIT-JEE and NEET. This session provided students with key strategies for cracking these competitive exams through disciplined routines and effective study techniques. Additionally, it opened discussions about future career paths in high-demand fields, and introduced other esteemed institutions like IISc and IISER, as well as exams like IAT and SAT. The session was an eye-opener, expanding the students' awareness of the various opportunities available to them.
At 10:30 am, the second session shifted focus to biotechnology, a rapidly growing multidisciplinary field that integrates biology, engineering, medicine, and plant science. This session was particularly beneficial for students aspiring to pursue careers in life sciences, genetic engineering, or research. The application, scope, and potential of biotechnology were discussed, inspiring students who are inclined toward the life sciences to consider a variety of career paths.
The final session provided a comprehensive guide on selecting the right college at the right time, and offered an in-depth overview of various engineering branches students can choose based on their interests. This segment also introduced the National Institution Ranking Framework (NIRF), which plays a pivotal role in helping students make informed decisions when selecting colleges, offering complete details on institutions and their rankings. Each session concluded with a vote of thanks from the SFS students, accompanied by a token of appreciation presented on behalf of the school.
In between the sessions, a special interaction took place between SFS students and second-year IITians. This interactive session allowed the students to clear their doubts and gain practical insights into the preparation phase for JEE and NEET. The IIT students shared their own experiences, providing valuable do's and don’ts that could guide the aspirants on their journey toward achieving their goals.
At 5:00 pm, the day’s formal sessions concluded, and the group proceeded to the IIT Guest House for their overnight stay. The students were provided with comfortable accommodations, and in the evening, they enjoyed a teacher-student interaction session and friendly games. Dinner was served at 9:00 pm, followed by a restful night at 10:30 pm.
DAY 2
The next morning began early, with a campus tour of IIT Guwahati starting at 6:00 am. The students and teachers spent two hours exploring the lush green campus, appreciating its scenic beauty and advanced infrastructure. Following the tour, the group returned to their rooms, packed their belongings, and enjoyed breakfast at 9:00 am. At 10:30 am, the students and teachers expressed their gratitude to the faculty members and staff at IIT Guwahati for the incredible experience and warm hospitality. The group departed at 10:45 am, returning to SFS Guwahati with newfound knowledge and inspiration.
This educational trip to IIT Guwahati was not only a valuable learning experience but also an eye-opener for many students, offering them a glimpse into various career paths they had not previously considered. The exposure to such a prestigious institution, combined with the insightful sessions and interactions, has undoubtedly laid a strong foundation for the students' future endeavors.
