St. Francis De Sales School, Guwahati witnessed two meaningful and inspiring days on 14th and 15th August 2025, marked by learning, patriotism, and a deep commitment to environmental and national values.

An Interactive Day with the Forest Man of India – Padma Shri Jadav Payeng (14th August 2025)

On 14th August 2025, the school had the honour of hosting Padma Shri Jadav Payeng, popularly known as the Forest Man of India, for an interactive and educative day across multiple venues including the Assembly Area, Mermier Hall, and Mermier Block.

The day began with a prayer followed by the felicitation of the esteemed guest by the Principal, Rev. Fr. George Thomas, who also addressed the students, emphasizing responsibility towards nature and sustainable living. Mr. Payeng then inspired the students with his powerful message on environmental conservation, sharing his life journey and mission of afforestation.

Interactive sessions were conducted separately for Classes 7, 8, 9, and 10, where students actively engaged with the resource person through thoughtful questions and discussions. The sessions encouraged students to reflect on their role as environmental custodians. A special assembly in the Mermier Block, addressed by the Vice Principal Rev. Fr. Melvin PK, further reinforced the message of collective responsibility towards nature. The program concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the profound impact of the interaction.

The following day, 15th August 2025, SFS Guwahati celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great pride and patriotic fervour at the Assembly Ground, SFS Block.

The programme commenced with NCC students escorting the Principal, Rev. Fr. George Thomas, and the Chief Guest, Padma Shri Jadav Payeng, marking a moment of honour and discipline. The ceremony included patriotic songs, a ceremonial parade, band display, and vibrant cultural performances by students from Classes V to XI, beautifully reflecting India’s unity in diversity.

The flag hoisting by Padma Shri Jadav Payeng and the Principal, followed by the National Anthem, stood as a powerful symbol of national pride. In his address, the Chief Guest spoke about freedom, responsibility, and the need to protect the nation’s natural heritage. The celebration concluded with the School Anthem, followed by a plantation drive, reinforcing the school’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Together, the events of 14th and 15th August 2025 offered students a unique blend of value-based education, environmental awareness, and patriotic spirit. Hosting a national icon like Padma Shri Jadav Payeng across both days made the celebrations deeply meaningful, leaving students inspired to serve the nation responsibly and sustainably.
